Memorandum Signed on Monitoring Labour Migration

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Agency of Public Registry of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs aimed at effective monitoring of labour migration related processes.

The Memorandum was signed by Papuna Ugrekhelidze, head of the National Agency of Public Registry and Elza Jgerenaia, head of labour and employment policy department of the Ministry.

According to the Memorandum, the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs will be given access and will be authorized to monitor the regularly updated electronic databases of the business subjects engaged in labour migration of Georgian citizens abroad. The Ministry, in turn, will provide response to the violations identified in the process of monitoring in accordance with applicable legislation.

Legal person(s), individual entrepreneur(s) or branches (representations, permanent offices) of foreign companies or non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal person(s), engaged in employing Georgian citizens abroad and/or facilitating such employment are obliged to register their activity at the registry of economic activities, in accordance with terms established by Georgian legislation.

“We have signed the memorandum with the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs aimed at protecting rights and interests of Georgian citizens working abroad. Developing the sphere of labour migration is one of the priorities of Georgian government and an important component of safe migration. Signing memorandum will contribute to effective regulation of labour migration, improving coordination between two state agencies and ensure better access to data”, said Papuna Ugrekhelidze, head of the National Agency of Public Registry.
