International Conference on Migration Has Kicked Off

The Minister of Justice of Georgia opened the international conference in Tbilisi dedicated to the challenges of global migration processes. The event will help Georgian and foreign scholars to share their research findings and widen the knowledge on regional and international migration trends.

Migration is one of the important issues shaping the political agenda of the EU member states today. The Tbilisi international conference will help Georgia, as a part of the European family, to contribute to the European debate on migration and elaborate the right approaches to the present-day challenges.

The international conference will last for 2 days. On September 29th, the participants will hear the lecture of Professor Ronald Skeldon, the expert of UN and Maastricht universities, while thematic sessions will be held on September 30th.

The conference named “Recent Migration Processes and Europe: Challenges and Opportunities” is held in the framework of the Action Plan of the Georgian Migration Strategy 2016-2020 and the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Tbilisi State University and the State Commission on Migration Issues in 2014. The conference is supported by the EU funded project “Enhancing Georgia’s Migration Management (ENIGMMA)” implemented by ICMPD.
