Visit of Representatives of German Federal Employment Agency in Georgia

On May 18-22, the representatives of the Federal Employment Agency of Germany Ms. Brigitte Schmieg and Ms. Anja Block visited Georgia within the frames of the EU-funded project “Strengthening the Development Potential of the EU Mobility Partnership in Georgia through Targeted Circular Migration and Diaspora Mobilization”. During their visit to Georgia, the German Experts held bilateral meetings with the representatives of state and private organizations working on migration and employment related issues. The experts studied current situation and problems in Georgia referring securing skilled labor on the labor market and also paid a visit to Social Service Agency local office, to see on spot how state services referring employment are offered to job-seekers. The preparatory meetings were followed by 2 day long workshop, conducted in Courtyard Marriott Hotel on May 21-22. The experts presented German strategy and instruments about important topics for Georgia such as: matching labor market supply and demand, regulations of labor immigration etc. The participants discussed together with the German experts to what extent the local instruments allow for applicability of German approach to Georgian context. Issues referring challenges, obstacles and options on effectively managing labor market were discussed during the workshop.

The project is run by the Center for International Migration (CIM), Public Service Development Agency of Georgia and Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Georgia (GSMEA).
