The Law on Aliens Amended

The Law of Georgia on Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons was amended in November 2014. According to the amendments, aliens staying in Georgia will enjoy the preferential terms for obtaining residence permit and immigration visa during transitional period. At the same time, the amendments introduce the legal grounds for long-term staying of persons having the status of compatriot, and simplified procedures for transiting the territory of Georgia for performers of international cargo transportation. The amendments introduce the following preferences for the aliens staying in Georgia:

 You have been a holder of Georgian residence permit before 27 November 2014

You may apply for a residence permit to the Public Service Development Agency or Public Service Halls without presenting a document evidencing your lawful stay in Georgia

Last time you entered Georgia after 17 March 2014 and you were present in Georgia by 27 November 2014

You may apply for a residence permit to the Public Service Development Agency or Public Service Halls without presenting a document evidencing your lawful stay in Georgia

This regulation is valid from 27 November 2014 until 1 March 2015

 

You have lawfully been in Georgia and at least 45 days are left until your lawful stay expires

To obtain an immigration visa please apply to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

This regulation is valid from 25 December 2014

Last time you entered Georgia before 17 March 2014, the period of your lawful stay in Georgia has already expired, and you have never been refused a Georgian residence permit

Before applying for a residence permit, you must obtain an immigration visa
To obtain an immigration visa please apply to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Last time you entered Georgia before 17 March 2014 and at least 30 days remain until your lawful stay in Georgia expires

You are an alien with the status of compatriot and want to stay in Georgia for more than 30 days

You may apply to the Public Service Development Agency or Public Service Halls for a special residence permit, which is issued for a long term

Truck drivers and co-drivers who require transit visas for international transportation of cargo need not provide guarantees to enter a third country

A transit visa is issued for a period of 10 days instead of 5 days. You may obtain a transit visa at the Georgian Consulates abroad or on the Georgian state border

Please Note!!!

New visa regulations do not apply to aliens who entered Georgia before 1 September 2014 up to the time they leave Georgia, but not later than until 1 March 2015
