PROJECT ON BUILDING TRAINING AND ANALYTICAL CAPACITIES ENDS

The final conference under the Building Training and Analytical Capacities on Migration in Moldova and Georgia (GOVAC) project was held at the Sheraton Metechi Palace. All partner organizations from Georgia, Moldova and EU Member States involved in the Project took part in the conference.

Issues discussed during the conference covered migration-related education, training, social importance of migration, the role of media in providing information on migration processes to the civil society, etc.

The EU-funded GOVAC project was implemented in Georgia and Moldova from January 2011 to May 2013 inclusive. The EU funding of the project amounted to €980 000.

The experience gained from the project implementation and success stories as well as lessons learned are important not only for other projects or the region but for the development and implementation of migration policy.

With the support of GOVAC project, a Migration Training Manual was developed to be used for training public service employees. The Manual was also recommended for the Tbilisi State University and Moldova State University.

It should be noted that GOVAC project was implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), the Bulgarian Ministries of Foreign and Internal Affairs, the Czech Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Finnish Immigration Service, the Netherlands Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Portuguese Immigration and Border Service, the Slovak Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Federal Service of Migration of Switzerland and with significant support from Georgian and Moldovan colleagues, in particular, from the Public Service Development Agency (Georgian Ministry of Justice) and the Migration and Asylum Bureau (Moldovan Ministry of the Interior).
