GFMD Invites Observers to Attend the Civil Society Days 2016

ICMC’s Civil Society Coordinating Office of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) and MADE warmly extends this invitation to your government or organization to participate as guest or observer in the 2016 GFMD Civil Society Days. The Civil Society Days will take place on Thursday and Friday 8 – 9 December in the same venue as the government GFMD days, the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

In response to deepening interest in civil society growing out of last year’s Global Forum, the 2016 GFMD Civil Society Programme will bring together a greater number of 300 leaders of civil society organizations and networks from around the world, at least half of whom are migrants, representing migrant-led and diaspora organizations, human rights and development NGOs, trade unions, academia and the private sector active at local, national, regional and/or international levels.

Under the title: “Time for Action: Doing rights-based governance of migration and development in our communities and across borders” the GFMD Civil Society Days will look at how we actually implement people-centered, needs-first, rights-based policies in both migration and human development in work we do as civil society and together with governments, agencies and increasingly the private sector. Relevance of the existing migration policies will be discussed in the light of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); objectives set by the recent UN General Assembly’s “High-level Summit on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants” held on 19 September 2016 in New York, as well as the GFMD agenda.
