Meeting on Information Campaign in Georgia for Prevention of Irregular Migration

On 23 May 2016, Tbilisi Public Hall hosted a meeting dedicated to the informational campaign planned to be launched on illegal migration. The meeting was organized by the International Organization for Migration in cooperation with the relevant authorities of the Kingdom of Belgium and Georgian state authorities – members of the State Commission on Migration Issues. The meeting was attended by the Belgian migration service, relevant Georgian state authorities, international and non-governmental organizations, and mass media.

Informational activities on illegal migration were discussed at the meeting, which, in cooperation with IOM and Belgian migration service will be implemented under state financing provided by the Kingdom of Belgium, and will be focused primarily on asylum issues. Georgian Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees, Secretariat of the State Commission on Migration Issues and other interested parties, including mass media representatives will take active role in the campaign. These activities will raise public awareness on the issues of prevention of illegal migration and opportunities of legal migration.
